The least you can do is make sure he has a dog house where he feels at home if he spends a lot of his time outside.

First, get to know your dog's size. Holding your arm off the ground and saying 'he's about that tall' isn't an accurate measurement for your pet. You need to really know how tall he is. Pull out the tape measure and measure to the top of his back. Now also measure how high the top of his head is when he is sitting. The next measurement to take is his length. All of these measurements will have an impact on the size of house you can buy for him. As you start to look for the right dog house, remember that the smallest you can choose is at least 1 ¼ times your dogs measurements. As it is, that will be cozy, so if you have to fudge one way or another, make it a bigger home rather than smaller. If the one you choose is too small, your dog will likely completely avoid it because he feels he can't turn around or move naturally and is just uncomfortable.
While you may have found a dog house that seems ok, did you check the door? Sometimes the door is a bit smaller than you would expect. It needs to be at least 1 inch taller than your dog in order for him to easily get in and out of it. If it's not, try again.
